The mighty phowars were praying to mother nature to keep the snow off till at least after 13:00 when they were due to play Slazengers which if we won would make us champions and gain a second promotion in two seasons. Yet another snowy start to a Saturday morning meant that the Ladies 1s waited to hear news from Harrogate. With most people still in bed or lounging about the ladies were surprised to here that the Harrogate pitch was playable and the game was on. Once again the wintry conditions decided to intervene and spoil hockey proceedings at the weekend. The 8.30 am pitch inspection on Saturday morning saw the astro covered in light snow and the prospects of play looked very slim. Last week was national pie week, I mention this as we had an outstanding Sheppards pie made by yours truly for after match teas, so out standing man of the match was a close run thing and nearly ended up going to the pie it’s also a good metaphor for what we were throwing at the oppo goalkeeper whilst in search of goals during the match – pies, and lots of ’em. Men’s 3s – but not as we know it , Out of orbit, warp drive and launch control Men’s 3 had a two big games this weekend to continue their quest to the top of the table. With Captain Tom Beale missing Saturday , and a few changes in the line-up, Greg Hilton stepped up to lead the Men’s 3’s away game against Boston spa.
