We were expecting a tough game against an experienced Harrogate side who got promoted with us
last season.

The game started with a high intensity as both team’s game plans became clear, Adel pressing high
and moving the ball at pace. Harrogate going over the top and using “their lovely hands” (Dan
Madden, 2018) to cause problems in the final third. Harrogate took the lead after good work down
the right with Jack unlucky to not have cleared the ball under pressure.

Adel bit back with a fine lofted finish from Been (spelt with two E’s at his own request) Leeming after
a driving run and some help from Skipper Holford for his first Adel goal. There are some erroneous
claims that Holford got the final touch before the ball crossed the line but snakes are notoriously
unreliable.

The game became quite scrappy until half time with both teams trying to get ahead, there were
some unsavoury scenes akin to the McGregor vs Khabib aftermath. The sides went in even at half
time.

As the second half got underway, Harrogate started the stronger of the two teams. Winning and
converting a well worked short corner. With Si Taylor finding his way onto the pitch Adel pressed for
an equaliser, Miles Goblin Butler missing the most clear-cut chance after great work from Holford.

The equaliser finally came after smart play from DC at a set piece driving into the D, playing a one-
two with the keeper before finishing. Unfortunately following this equalising Harrogate won several
short corners, converting two to come out winners on the day.

There were more positives than negatives.

MOM – Been Leeming (being better than everyone else)
DOD – Meaton (bringing shame to the ADU)
