The men’s 1’s went away to Bradford knowing that a win would secure promotion. First task of the day was to negotiate the roads of Bradford…
The changing room was full of nervous energy, Bens team talk calmed the lads and after an intense and focused warm up the game began!
Bradford pressed hard in the first 10minutes putting the Adel midfield and backline under a lot of pressure. A short corner was initially saved before a reverse stick shot found its way through Swiss cheese Berry’s legs to put Bradford 1-0 up. Queue more nerves.
Adel came back into the game building possession through captain Nathan leading by example in the centre of pitch. A break down the Bradford left found Sam Harris on the left hand side of the D with a strong reverse stick found its way through the usually dependable Bradford keeper.
The rest of the first half was played at high intensity and eventually Bradford’s press forced an error and a strong reverse stick shot found its way into the Adel goal. 2-1 Bradford.
With 2minutes left of the first half a goal mouth scramble in the Bradford ‘D’ ended up in a penalty flick…Bally stepped up in an effort to pull the scores level…however a low flick found the back fence instead of the back of the net…2-1 Bradford at half time.
Ben had the biggest half time team talk of the season and again calmed the situation and sent the boys out.
Within 3minutes of the re-start a disguised pass from Birdy found Bally at the top of the D, a sharp shot across the goal was well saved but the Ball was slammed into the the back of the net by Moorhouse. 2-2.
This time it was Adels turn to press and a great tag team tackling from Jim Robinson and Bally turned the ball over in the Bradford 25, a quick 1-2 between Moorhouse and Ball was slotted away by the latter…3-2 Adel, a great turn around and reaction to going behind.
Adel now started to assert themselves against a young Bradford side, Captain hemming in the centre of the pitch playing a pivotal role and Birdy and tino forming a solid back line. An Adel short corner was saved by the keeper but quick reactions from Maver dinked the ball into the back of the net to calm the nerves 4-2.
Now, came the best goal of the game, Moorhouse dispossessed a Bradford midfielder, drove forward and instead of trying to go through a flat Bradford tackle, found Bayford on the left hand side of the D. Having studied the Bradford keeper he waited an age for him to slide and log, as time stood still Bayford lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper into the back of the net…He peeled away to the adoring fans doing the well rehearsed plane celebration! 5-2 Adel!
The last 10 minutes were frenetic and end to end, Bradford pulled one back with a short corner rifled into the corner. 5-3 Adel.
The last 2 minutes were seen out, and big celebrations ensued at the final whistle as the 3 points secured the teams 20th won of the season and promotion back to the North Leagues. Two more games to go for a 100% record…
