With more orange men that a typical Belfast march, Adel lined up in force against the Leeds university students evicted from their own university home pitch. Becketts Park the venue familiar to Adel, except a few late comers and an umpire equally confused by the venue choice.

Adel welcomed Savage, Bayford, Horsey, Sati Bhogal and Heslip into the team for the first time this year. The first half seem to pass with frequent ‘leaving cards’ being dished out to the departing Black by the umpires. Scrappy play, aerials landing in crowded D’s, untidy tackling and miss placed passed summed up the half. Adel conceded mid way through the half as they turned over the ball in attack 0-1. As the half time words were being planned Adel drew level with a Heslip goal after Jackson had pushed the ball past the on rushing keeper. 1-1

With the message from Partner to ‘gain control of the ball and start to pass to it around’ still ringing in the ears of the Adel players they gained an early turn over. 5 passes later Heslip produced a cheeky reverse flick pass to put Bayford in space before he slotted home 2-1. Adel then played their trump card formation with 12 players on the pitch with young George Heslip managing 1 min at right back trying to out do his dad for fantasy league points no doubt. Adel carried on with that momentum and Lockyer was unlucky for a second week running when he put the ball in the net again only for a flick to be given. As with last week a Bhogal gladly stepped up to slot the ball home from the flick (this time Sati). 3-1

The next 10 minutes defined the end of the game unfortunately for Adel. Another series of cards were dished out to both teams which had a bigger effect on the Adel men than the smaller Uni squad. 3-1 became 3-2 and 3-3 with scrappy goals and Leeds Uni completed the comeback in the final minute with a well taken goal to take the points.

Not long to right the wrongs for Adel though as they welcome Bowden 2’s to Adel tomorrow in the 1st round of the cup. Giant Killing maybe?

MOM Crocker who returned to the central defence and despite the score line stood out with a commanding performance, shame his Dad stood out more at training this past week. Can’t let that happen again surely

DOD Black. and for his poor criminal discipline he shall be banished to New Zealand (Australia was already full). Good luck with your next venture from the team. Send us a card you have plenty now!

Many thanks to the umpires for the day, supporters and children

Next week sees the match against Worksop but a small matter of Bowden first.
