Word by Mr D Madden.
An away trip to Doncaster was on the cards for the Adel Men’s 2nd XI, a fixture that had finished 8-0 in favour of Adel, the previous time the two sides had met. However, any complacency was rapidly extinguished by a Holford team talk and rumours, confirmed by the internet (what isn’t now) that Doncaster 2’s didn’t have a fixture.
Adel started the game in the usual fashion; dominating possession, pressing high and creating chances and before long the deadlock was broken. Goals coming from Buller, Partner (someone who is appearing on the scoresheet with monotonous regularity), and a Will Powley flick on the stroke of half time saw the away side reach the break leading 3-0.
However, the performance in the second half did not shower the 2’s in glory. A lethal combination of sloppy passing, shooting from absurd angles (still), and a customary green card shown to Meaton (yeah, really) saw the home side pull two back. However, Adel battled through and managed to consolidate the three points with goals from Heinz, Rich Partner again, and a rare score card appearance for Mr. Leeming (a.k.a Bean). All in all, another win for the Adel Men’s 2nd XI.
Next week we welcome promotion rivals Harrogate, the only side to have taken three points against the 2’s.
