“The announcement tonight from Boris Johnson and his senior medical advisers has obvious implications for Leeds Adel HC. As a club one of our values is to look after the safety and health of our members and therefore it is with great sadness that the committee have agreed to suspend all hockey related activity with immediate effect.
Tom and Gaby have already made the decision to cancel senior training this week. England Hockey (http://www.englandhockey.co.uk/news.asp?itemid=49019&itemTitle=England+Hockey+suspends+national+hockey+activity§ion=22) and Yorkshire Hockey have also suspended all playing activity so any remaining games to be played this season will be postponed until further notice and we await guidance as to if and when they can be played. The YYHL have postponed until further notice any remaining fixtures this season too.
Our AGM was scheduled for early April and clearly this cannot go ahead on this date as things currently stand. The committee therefore propose that the AGM is postponed until further notice with a view to reviewing the situation nearer the start of the next playing season. I have no idea if constitutionally this can be done but clearly the current circumstances would override the constitution.
Sadly, it looks like our annual End of Season dinner will also need to be rearranged – perhaps becoming the first Start of Season Dinner later in the year when things have hopefully improved and we can reconvene and celebrate this season’s successes. Summer league activity is likely to also be impacted unfortunately and the Easter tour to Blackpool festival is also likely to be affected.
I know hockey is a central activity in all of our lives but we cannot ignore the clear guidance we are being given. Please look after yourselves, your families and your fellow club members, especially if they need to self isolate, and I am sure the Adel spirit will help everyone pull together. I hope we are soon through this difficult period when we can return to some normality for the game we all love.”
