Firstly, thank you to the 80 odd people who attended the end of season dinner and awards evening at Moor Allerton Golf Club.  I am assured that all those attending made it home to play another day, although I gather there were some enforced early departures and in true Wallace and Gromit style some people went home with the Wrong Trousers (well jackets actually).

These events don’t just happen by magic and without Gaby and Fireman Sam’s planning and organisation, we might still be sat in the club at Adel waiting for the bus whilst we share a packet of crisps.  Gaby and Sammy have worked tirelessly to sort out the venue, the meal options, payment, decorate the room, the bus, the DJ and a hell of a lot more.

Thanks also to our hosts at Moor Allerton Golf Club for putting up with us for another year and also for the opportunity for some hockey players to practice their swings on the golf course where I gather the best golfer ended up buying the drinks in the bar afterwards.

On the night a number of other people helped out with the raffle, the 100 club and the presentations.  Thank you to President Poll for his opening remarks and reminding us that whilst we are the current custodians of the Leeds Adel HC membership, there are over 50 years of the club before us and we should not forget those who have represented the teams over the years and are sadly no longer with us.  Anna, Carrie and co also made sure that the fund raising for the new goals got off to a healthy start with the raffle and the 100 club and at this rate we should have enough in the bank to start the season with some goals to match the quality of the new pitch and lights.

Thank you also to the generous donors of the raffle prizes which included Moor Allerton Golf Club and our new kit providers from All Rounder.

But the club should also be looking forward to the next 50 years too and earlier in the day under Pam and Simon’s tuition, our end of season junior tournament and awards took place at the pitch.  Over 60 juniors had a great morning finally getting the chance to play at Adel and many of them look to have the talent and commitment to move on to represent the senior sides (and attend future club dinners too).

As ever, at the end of the season we have to say goodbye to some people who are moving on to pastures new and in particular I would like to thank Robin Walker who has led the mens coaching for the last 3 seasons and kept the mens 1s in order on a Saturday.  Robin has also helped out in emergency situations as a player (in and out of goal) and as an umpire showing that at Adel you can get the full all round hockey experience!

We also say goodbye (hopefully temporarily) to Helen Goacher who has been the ladies club captain for the last season overseeing the tremendous success of our ladies teams.  Helen has been one of the key linchpins in the ladies 1s midfield over the last few seasons and will be difficult to replace.

And then we wish our students off to University every success with their future hockey careers but look forward to them coming back to play in our summer leagues and when they have graduated so they can show us what they have learned away from Adel.

A list of the prize winners will be covered in a separate post for those unable to attend (or for those whose celebrations on Saturday led to temporary memory loss).
