Some of you who still buy a Sunday newspaper, might have spotted a feature on our very own, David Margerison, with accompanying photo of him resplendent in his Adel kit!

This year is the 75th anniversary of the formation of Adel Hockey Club and whilst David cannot claim to have played in our first season, he did celebrate his 50th season of playing with Adel in 2020, having joined the club in 1970.  He is not quite our longest serving member as former player, umpire and Treasurer for many years, David Hall joined in 1964, but Madge is by some distance our longest serving player.

Its a great article, not just about David’s playing career, but about the enjoyment of team sport, the development of younger players and the way hockey can provide you with many long standing friendships and tours as you play at representative levels into your 70s and beyond.  David can often be seeing doing battle for Scotland over 70s against outgoing club President Ian “Sniffer” Phillips in the Scotland v Wales fixtures around the globe.  I will let them tell you who tends to come out with the bragging rights but its great to see both of them enjoying the game well into retirement.

Hopefully we will be able to arrange an event once rules permit to celebrate the clubs 75th season and we can hear from David about how he has seen the club change over the last 50 years.
