April 9th saw the start of the 2016 Playoffs, 4 league winners with record points tallies from their respective leagues would battle over three rounds, with the highest two placed teams gaining promotion to division 1.

Newcastle do not need the system explained to them, making their third appearance in the last three years, the experienced rollercoaster riders hoping to avoid heartache this time around.

A huge crowd gathered in the spring sunshine, local support from current and past players, friends, families and some usual suspects from Ben Rhydding, Harrogate and Leeds.

Both teams played the first half nervously, understandable considering what was at stake, some early chances exchanged and it would be Newcastle who would produce the first goal. Adel quickly rallied and the equaliser was smashed in by K.Blyth continuing recent good goal scoring form. Half time quickly arriving, honours even, and a fair reflection of the game thus far.

If the first half was somewhat subdued, the second half turned out to be quite the opposite, played at fast pace and at times panicked and lacking composure from both sides. Adel quickly took the lead through C.Goacher and as the team looked to be settling, their attempts to seal the points would be thwarted by a resolute and tough Newcastle team who responded with a goal of their own. Adel would break quickly numerous times, Newcastle responding with numerous attacking penalty corners. The game eventually brought to a halt by the umpires. 2-2, both teams somewhat disappointed and no doubt felt either team could have found the winning goal.
