So for the past 5 weeks myself with help from others (you know who you are, so thank you) have been writing a tender document, frantically applying for more funding and eventually going out to competitive tender.

The tender document was sent to 6 companies, 2 declined to bid. From the returns we short listed to two, negotiated and eventually selected a contractor on Tuesday.

The pitch will be relaid by Charles Lawrence who did the origional pitch. Current planning is for it to start mid August and be complete by mid September. The old pitch will likely be removed at the start of August.

For those of you at the AGM, Sam has very kindly offered to remove the pitch. He will need help to remove the old shockpad, so please look for announcements of help needed at the end of July, beginning of August.

So contracts have yet to be signed, I am finalising line markings and working out how to get the money from EHB and National Hockey Foundation.

So thanks to everyone who has bought a pitch square, organised a sponsorship and generally helped out.

  1. Great news and whilst Greg says its been a team effort, the club should recognise that Greg has done a great deal of organising and driving this through in order to make this happen.

Thanks to everyone who has made a donation in one form or another – if you have not made any financial contribution (which I accept is understandable for some of you, students in particular) then perhaps your contribution to the new pitch might be to support Sam’s Chain Gang when the old pitch needs to be taken up (well for students it will be a perfect time to spend your lazy August time off between lectures!).

Of course, further financial donations are still welcome as the new pitch is only the first phase of the overall upgrade, with lights and changing rooms very much also in need of modernisation too.

So everyone now needs to make sure that when you run out onto the new playing surface at Adel, you are in the best shape so make sure you sign up to the pre-season fitness training too!
