Most of you will be up to speed with the pre season plans for the hockey club with fitness training, summer league and the eagerly awaited September fixtures where pre-season friendlies will be a chance to assess whether all that summer activity has paid off.

There are also a couple of other events at AWMA that you may want to attend although perhaps the 2 events are somewhat counter-productive.

Firstly, the annual beer festival organised by the cricket section takes place over the weekend of Friday 31st August to Sunday 2nd September and once again the hockey section have sponsored one of the barrels of beer.  Please pop along to support the cricket section, AWMA and enjoy the beers (and ciders and gins I believe) on offer.

Then on Monday 10th September at 7.30pm in the Eddie Isle Room at AWMA, there is a session led by Isobel Thornley from Leeds Beckett University titled as a “Healthy Ageing Talk”.  This is free to attend, and will give you strategies on optimising healthy ageing advising how muscles age (not sure a gallon of beer and a curry after a match is the answer….), the best exercises for muscles and ageing and the role of nutrition.

This is an event for all AWMA sections to attend collectively so it would be great to see some hockey representation so you can learn some tips as to how to keep on playing for longer!
