Saturday saw the first of Adel’s teams secure their promotion this season with the Mens 4s achieving part one of their target with a comfortable 4-0 win over Thirsk & Malton.  The victory secured promotion for Sam and his team and maintained their unbeaten league season having only dropped 2 points from their away game against the same opposition back in November.  As the celebrations started in the bar at Adel, news began to filter through from Boston Spa of a win for the Mens 5s which was not only a great win for the 5s but also meant Boston Spa could no longer overtake the Mighty 4s and therefore the championship was in the bag as well.  With 4 games still to play, can the 4s become the 2nd Adel team in 2 seasons to be “invincible” after the ladies 1s success last season?  When will Andy Miles let in another goal having only been beaten in 2017 in the Mens veterans game?  Will Bob Sibley find a bobble hat in Adel colours to celebrate the promotion and will the Mens 5s manage to maintain their strong end of season rally and secure the second promotion spot from Division 6 North?

Earlier the mens 1s overcame a minor setback of allowing Thirsk and Malton 1s the early lead, but normal service was resumed as they eventually overcame determined opposition and scored the next 7 goals without reply.  The 1s need 2 wins from their final 4 games to secure the title but could if other results go their way this weekend wrap it all up in their away fixture against Leeds 5s at Weetwood.

The mens 2s had an impressive away win at Wakefield and the 3s fought hard to come back with a point from their away game at Bingley which meant the mens section were undefeated on Saturday.  How times have changed after a few years in the doldrums for the mens section and some of this must be due to the leadership of Paul Lewis and Ben Henley which has seen all teams competing at the top end of the table this season, healthy competition for places and the rare sight of a 4th team having a squad of 16 players.  Funny what the chance of becoming league champions can do for player availability!

Congratulations to Sam Ellis and all of his merry band of 4th team players and supporters and hopefully they will continue to rise the leagues next season which is certainly within their capability based on this seasons performances.

The early starters were the ladies 3s eager to beat close rivals Pocklington but sadly they came off second best in a high scoring game and have it all to do now to have a realistic chance of promotion.  The ladies 1s with a youthful squad took on Alderley Edge who were lying second in the table at the start of the day and in a close fought tussle, it was Jaclyn Smith who opened the scoring for Adel midway through the second half.  However, this seemed to wake up the Edge who fought back to take a 2-1 lead which they clung on to despite a late flurry of corners that Adel could not quite convert.

The ladies 2s seem to have slipped under the radar and an impressive 5-0 win away at York saw them rise to 2nd place in the Yorkshire Premier League.  The 2s have only lost once all season to date and seem to have found some form at the right time now they are converting frustrating draws into comfortable wins.  Lets hope the league is able to sort out any end of season play offs for promotion in good time this year in the event that the 2s finish in the 2nd place they currently hold.

And finally the ladies 4s fought hard to bring back 3 points with a narrow 1-0 win away from home to keep their promotion prospects alive.

This weekend sees a full set of 5 home games and the mens 1s down the road at weetwood for the game that might secure their promotion.  Please make every effort to get behind your teams and help them off the pitch just as much as the mens 5s helped the 4s on the pitch with their victory!
