The club are proud of the successful junior section under the watchful eye of Pam Hardaker and her team of enthusiastic and keen helpers every week and we have a strong track record of bringing through junior players into our senior teams before we sadly see them depart to continue their hockey career at University. Pleasingly, a number of them return to Adel to continue to play for the club but some of them move on to higher representative honours (but don’t forget their hockey roots and where it all began!).
This weekend most of you will already know that Suzy Petty is in New Zealand representing England at the inaugural FIH World Hockey League. Judging by her Instagram account it looks like a lot of scootering, drinking coffee and reading books in leafy parks.
However, you may not have spotted that the England Universities Ladies squad was announced this week and it was great to see another former Adel junior named. Emma Bickley (Bickers) played junior hockey at Adel before playing in the senior teams up to the age of 18 and heading off to Hull University. In the photo Bickers is alongside the successful Ladies 2s team who won their league in 2014 (see how many other faces you recognise!) and Bickers as well as Flo Straughan and Millie Jeavons also in the photo went on to be part of the successful ladies 1s team who were the Invincibles in 2015/16 winning all 22 league games and being award EH team of the year.
Bickers currently captains Hull University Ladies 1s and we congratulate her on her selection and wish her luck in the forthcoming tournament. Just remember when you graduate that you need a job back in Leeds so you can return to Adel!
