Mens 4s Versus York 9s
Match Report by Tom Beale
The mighty phwoars were up and out the traps early on a sunny Saturday morning to the recently merged uni and York team.
Fresh faced and hangover free the phwoars meant business in what was sure to be a sterner test than last weeks mauling.
The opening 20 mins was played exclusively in the opponents half with Beale, Greig and Brayshaw pressing hard up top. The press and and slick passing resulted in a number of chances that due to inspired goal keeping, the frame of the goal and some wasteful shooting Adel failed to capitalise on. Defender Beale doing his best to not add to his tally hitting the post twice and missing the ball altogether on a rather bouncy surface.
As Adel were beginning to get impatient they were finally rewarded as the influential Greig broke through the middle placing a delightful through ball to Brayshaw who tucked it home under the advancing keeper at the near post. 1 nil the orange and most deserved.
Half time came and went with a lot of huffing, puffing and hockey cliches but essentially we needed to score more and not concede.
York then scored on the counter-attack as all 4 of Adel midfielders decided to play right wing. The York team moved the ball down the vacated flank and made the most of the overload to level.
Angered at the loss of fantasy points and a potential slip up and drop of points Adel clicked and put together another spell of sustained pressure that resulted in two beautifully struck Greig finishes passed the impressive York keeper.
Skipper Sam found that the bouncing ball in the D was not the easiest to convert at the death and a Matt brown strike was ruled out for a rather blatant through ball with the inside of his right boot.
Final score 3-1 which reflected a well fought for victory against what is likely to be one of the better sides in the league.
Dod Ellis senior – unsure on reasons as the unsocial sec left early and skipped fines. I hear it was for poor parking and sitting on the ball?
Top of the league unbeaten and playing some good stuff. Come on the phwoars
