After a disappointing result on Saturday Fozzy called in reinforcements, Jim Cockburn and Sam Ransley to strengthen the defence alongside Ruairi and Fozzy for the Sunday fixture against Leeds University. It was a standard high quality warm up for Adel 2s… do what you want, try to kill the keeper before the start of the game.

The game was flowing from end to end from the very start with Adel edging it against the young Uni team. Adel scored the first goal of the game with a flowing, passing movement between Rich, Miles, Gwyn and Horsey with the final pass from Andy which was finished clinically by Sham. Adel on top!

Leeds Uni got a goal back with about ten minutes remaining in the half from a crash ball into the circle.  Sam forgot he was playing and not coaching the Ladies and watched his attacker deflect the ball into the goal. The Uni were putting a great deal of pressure on the Adel defence chasing a second goal but everyone held strong to the half time whistle.

Half Time 1 – 1!

Adel came out stronger than the end of the first half after the great words of wisdom from the captain and other senior players. Generally be better!

The second Adel goal came from a free hit just outside the circle with Horsey receiving a quickly taken ball from Gwyn which grazed the edge of the circle before Horsey calmly entered circle and rocketed the ball into the goal.  The umpires conferred before the goal being correctly awarded!

Constant pressure from the midfield and forwards supported by a high pressing defence lead to a short corner when Leeds Uni were trying to hack down anyone attempting to shoot at goal. It was finally and rightly so, upgraded to a penalty stroke from some questions asked to the umpires by the Adel defence.

Unfortunately, Sam didn’t listen to his own advice of taking strokes and tried to go bottom left. All anyone saw was a keeper made to look very good after hardly moving to save the ball going into the goal. Consequently, the Men’s 2s are on the hunt for a new flick taker!

Adel finished off Leeds Uni breaking their hearts with an attack down the left with Horsey finishing it off, scoring his second of the game with another clinical finish.

Taking one for the team with what can only be described as assault, Sam made a diving taking on the Leeds Uni centre forward and only made contact with the shins of the player. After much sucking up to umpires as a coach only received a green card.

It was a great team performance by all.

Full Time 3 – 1 to Adel!
