Leeds Adel HC 1st XI 6:0 Wakefield 3rd XI

More excitement surrounded the Adel Mens 1s this weekend as they travelled the short distance to local rivals Wakefield Hockey Club. Following their emphatic victory last weekend, they made it two in two and sit atop their division.

There were changes in the side, and on the sideline as Walker stepped into the goal whilst Taylor was walking round Universities and Purdy was marching up and down the sideline as his injury prevents him over the white lines.

Setting of the Blue Pitch at Wakefield saw a frantic start for the Men in Black as they tried to control the game but lacked the structure, however most of the action took place in the Wakefield half. Maver (R) returning after a sabbatical from Adel made short work of his opening goal following pressure on the Wakefield back line. Soon after he added his second, as Reid Hendley was cool enough to find Maver when the Wakefield ‘keeper rushed out leaving Maver to slot into an empty goal.

The Adel defence was left to watch for most of the 1st half although having a brief scare when a bouncing ball managed to make its way through to the forward line. Hill and Robinson marshalled the players in front of them and took hold of the game, whilst Walker in goal was left to “enjoy” the game. Further pressure to the Wakefield defence allowed Jackson added a third, whilst Reid Hendley got his own before HT from a PC. 4-0.

In the second half Adel tightened ship following calls to ensure the clean sheet, however could have made more of the numerous circle entries. Just two were added as Jackson was put through by Hemming to add his second before the partnership of Reid Hendley and Maver wrapped things up for Adel. 6-0.

Adel welcome newly-formed Lindum to Church Lane this Saturday (1330 pb), looking to increase their top speed and distance covered during a game of hockey!
