The mens 1s started the year with a convincing 6-1 win away at Sheffield Hallam. The result ensured Chairman Mark had the bragging rights in the Powley household again over Sunday lunch as son Will was on the losing side.

Goals from Watkins (2), Mayhew, Jackson, Bayford and Purdy, left the race for the Pichichi wide open. The pick of the bunch being Jackson’s 3 inch scorcher after a clever one-two with the post ensured no team mate claimed an assist.

Coach turned keeper Walker was barely tested at the other end thanks to some resolute defending and a well drilled press, and but for some wasteful finishing Adel could have improved their goal difference further.

The result leaves the 1s top of the league and with a real chance of promotion.

Man of the match: Mayhew

Dick of the day: Mayhew… Even announced before he decided to leave Watkins’ kit at Abbeydale ensuring that the latter had a three and a half hour round trip on Monday evening.

Thanks as always to the Ultras for their support home and away, no matter the weather and to team sponsors V1sion Properties.
