Leeds Adel HC 1st XI 9:1 Sheffield Hallam HC 4th XI
In the league opener for Adel Men’s 1s it was an opportunity to stamp their intent for the season. Buoyed by the use of the new changing rooms, and inspired by the words above the doorways the men of Adel put in a committed and energetic performance.
On a warm September Saturday the Mens 1s rarely stopped. The first goal came within the opening 8 minutes from a Penalty Corner, slotted home by Purdy and he added to his personal tally soon after when a cross goal pass took a deflection and ended up in the goal. Watkins and Fuller also added their first goals for the season, both with clinical strikes before HT. 4-0.
In the second half, Adel started in second gear and allowed Hallam opportunity to get back into the game. A rare lapse by Hill, Brazier and co allowed the visitors onto the score sheet. However this re-ignited Adel who lifted their performance by adding pace and sharpness to every move going forward.
Goals were added by Evans, Jackson (on club debut),
Andy Reid, Hendley, another for Watkins and Purdy completed his hat-trick.
There was even a perfect opportunity for Taylor to show that he was still awake with a double save.
For next week Adel will take the short trip down the M1 to Wakefield, who were promoted into this league last season. 1200 start at College Grove.
