Yet another fine day on Saturday, Leeds Adel Ladies’ 1st XI welcomed Hull to Church Lane. Adel feeling buoyant after smashing seven goals last week, faced a potentially tough test against Hull, unbeaten so far this season and historically these fixtures have been very tight. Adel were looking to reach a landmark, a victory here would see them go a full calendar year of home wins at AWMA.
What was to ensue was maybe not as predicted. Adel would run out 11-1 victors, a comprehensive and dominant victory to maintain a 100% record for the league season. There were many highlights throughout the game. Straughan finding her first goal for the side, finishing comfortably at the back post. A.Blyth converting a stroke for her first goal, and a 70 yard run for her second. Wood with her first hat-trick since returning to Adel, continuing her impressive conversion rate this season. H.Goacher’s brace, the second a top left corner drag flick short corner conversion. Hesselwood managing to fall over and still score! C.Jones can claim the team goal and not to forget K.Blyth, making sure the sister goal race is staying close! Emma Bickley, celebrating her selection for Pennine Pumas, caused trouble throughout. Henry, Jeavons, and Love offering width to the attack. Byers, Gibson and McCall rarely called upon in the fixture, stayed alert throughout.
All 14 players showing their superior fitness to score second half goals, Jenny and Phill Wright, Primal Gym, beaming with pride as each and every player comfortably won the fitness race to 70 minutes.
We must comment on the 1, to be fair to the opposition, a neat finish to undo the defence. McCall conceding for the first time this season after nine clean sheets. Plenty of time this season to see if she and the defence can beat their own record.
Many thanks to the umpires and ever growing home support.
MOM- Flo Straughan and Anna Blyth . Flo scoring early and then dominating halfbacks throughout. Anna with another cool stroke conversion, running the midfield and scoring a goal that only she could.
DOD: Katy Blyth, something about licking a cheesecake!
