Adel and Chapeltown took a moment together with the umpires to remember Tony Moffatt before the game commenced

The weather forecast for this Saturday had been good all week and the team had been looking forward to playing again since the disappointment of last week’s double header cancellation. Sadly the the mood had been dampened by the sad news on Friday of the passing of Tony Moffatt, Adel and Chapeltown took a moment together with the umpires to remember Tony before the game commenced.

Normally we leave it until the end of the report to thank the umpires, but we must thank Lis and Morag from Yorkshire HUA, who under difficult circumstances were top class (as always) from start to finish.

The game itself was somewhat of a one sided affair. Smith opened the scoring within two minutes, with more added by the forward line of Bickley (2) K.Blyth (1)  and another hat- trick for Wood, the third a goal to remember with a reverse strike on the move from the edge of the area. The midfield battle somewhat comprehensive, C.Goacher, H.Goacher in control, A.Blyth and Hesselwood grabbing a goal each to complete the scorers list. The defensive line on Byers, Gibson, Jeavons, Straughan and Love, comfortable throughout, half-backs taking their chance to get forward to outnumber the Chapeltown defence with great effect. McCall was to have a quiet day, her only test to safely snuff out the danger from a single short corner, happy to collect the 10th clean sheet in 13 league games.

Credit is due to Chapeltown, who despite conceeding some early goals, persevered throughout, and whilst they could have put 11 bodies behind the ball, continued to work the ball forward in moments, some very young players showing great promise for the future.

Next week sees a short away trip to Boston Spa, fingers and toes crossed for the weather!

Many thanks to the support who finally got some sunshine (and goals!)

MOM- Emma Bickley – Tireless throughout and always improving. 2 well deserved goals.

DOD- Katie Wood – the exact reason escapes me, but celebrating a goal (however good) to make it 8-0 deserves punishment!
