Ladies 4s had a promising yet interesting start to their new season in a new league with a 3-2 win over Huddersfield Dragons 3s. With no goal keeper and no subs, a smart decision was made to play 15 minute quarters in a 7-a-side match. This allowed us to catch our breaths more often than not.
The first quarter was fairly even with the girls showing good skills defending and tackling and made great use of space when possible. The second and third quarters became interesting with goals from Rachael Damp, Ally Urso and Fathima Patel but two equalling goals by the Dragons.
The last quarter of the match saw us in fighting spirits, being more offensive than defensive. Sophie MacNay without her blonde flowing locks, started the game as sweeping back, moved to centre mid position, then left wing and finally left forward. Rachael Damp at one point was running for more lost causes than balls. And Anna Shields thought it would be a good idea to give the captain a hand up in the middle of play when she had fallen to the ground ungracefully, hence completely missing the playing ball. Good skill shown all around! Well- deserved tasty teas after. Thanks to Colin Shields for umpiring the game!
