Being the furthest away game yet, Ladies 3s were certainly not taking any chances against fourth from bottom City of York with a full team of sixteen.
Having enjoyed three previous games of clean sheets and 21 goals in the three weeks before which has left them top of the table – Adel showed up business as usual.
Adel started in typical fashion of going for every ball to break down City’s play. It only took less than ten minutes for Adel to break through the oppositions defence as the ball was never out of the attacking D. Once the first goal had gone in, Adel kept pushing and working together using the full width of the pitch to drive the ball forward. However, as time ticked on towards half time, play become noticeably scrappy – and having been caught out by this type of play by Barnsley a few weeks earlier (which resulted in a loss for Adel), the team decided to step up their game a notch by making the ball do the work by transferring around the back towards the wings again. As a result of this, goals started going in..
Half time came – 4-0.
After a quick half time chat (and some perfectly ripe oranges courtesy of Rosh) – Adel decided they wanted to up their game even more. The defence throughout the second half worked tirelessly. No ball made it through the solid fortress set up by Carrie, Emily, Abbie, Katie and Anna. So much so, that Lydia did not make a single touch all game. The midfield constantly pushed forward together with the motto ‘hunt in pairs’ always at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Great work by Jess and Emma in the middle of the pitch that were constantly transferring out solid balls to Vicky, Grace and Amy waiting on the wings. Adel’s play never allowed City of York to get themselves settled in the game – but credit to them for making Adel have to think about how they wanted to transfer the ball.
Whistle blown – and full time ended 5-0.
Everyone had a great game – and once again back on top spot in the table.
MOM – Carrie for a cracking game in defence
Credit once again goes to the coaches for implementing play for all the team to work on. Having a fourth game of a clean sheet is down to how hard the players work, and the defence working constantly. This is also down to everyone getting to training and working hard.
Shoutout to Jess for 4 goals – bravo, Emma for becoming a force to be reckoned with on the pitch, and also Grace who has been great playing in each position over the entire pitch!!
Here’s to a rest for slip week to recharge batteries before taking on Horsforth at home on 7th Nov.
Well done all!
