Welcome
Entering into the winter break, we have fulfilled over 250 fixtures across senior, masters, juniors, mixed and cup competitions since September! Continue reading to find out how our teams are getting on and what else we have going on at the club in 2024!
Our 11 mens and ladies teams have competed across Yorkshire and the North East of England – our ladies 1st XI team in a fight at the top of their league in race for promotion to the regional premier division. Many of our home grown junior members have made their debuts in senior hockey teams this year and some have had their first selections in the 1st XIs – the youngest being just 14.
Our junior section is going strength to strength with 5 under 10 teams and 5 under 12 teams regularly competing in regional competitions, as well as growing U14 and U16 squads for both boys and girls. In recognition of the development of the junior offering at the club we’ve also been selected by England Hockey as a club on the path to “Talent Centre” accreditation.
Finally, congratulations to the 15 members of the junior section who have been selected for county teams this year. They’ll be representing Adel and county for remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Happy Holidays and I look forward to welcoming you all back to the pitch in the New Year!

Men’s Section Report
Hello!
The start of the season saw a number of current members stepping up a team in order to bolster the squads across the men’s section. We also welcomed a handful of new players, who have settled in nicely and are serving as great additions to the club. This brings the mens section to a total of 120 players across our 6 squads.
Despite many unfamiliar squads at the start of the season, teams have begun to gel and are securing decent results in their respective leagues. The 1s, 3s, and 5s teams are sitting comfortably in mid-table positions. Meanwhile, the 2s have had an extremely promising start and are strong contenders for promotion back into YNE Division 1.
Whilst the season hasn’t been as easy for the 4th and 6th teams, they are both finishing the year two points outside of the danger zone. Despite the fact that some results haven’t gone in their favour, these teams have welcomed many of our talented juniors who will continue to improve as the season goes on. Hopefully the new year will bring some better results to guarantee safety.
One of the key highlights is the integration of youngsters into the adult setup. Since the start of the season, over a dozen players have stepped up from the U16s to play for the adult sides for the first time. Meanwhile, three current juniors have made their debut for the first team; this wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic junior setup that the club runs. With the recent acceptance into the EH talent centre scheme, Leeds Adel will hope to continue nurturing more promising youngsters to bolster the adult sides – the future is bright!
As always thanks to those who work hard to get squads playing and training each week – from captains to coaches and committee members to umpires!

Ladies Section Report
Hello and Merry Christmas to all!
It’s been a really busy first half of the Season in the Ladies’ section so far. We have welcomed back both familiar faces and new taking the Ladies section up to an impressive 110 members. This has meant that for the first time in a long time we have a waiting list to join Adel. This is brilliant news as word has clearly got out about what a fantastic set up we have here! On to a quick roundup of the teams.
The Ladies 1’s have gone from strength to strength this season lead by their new captain Kate. An impressive 7 games unbeaten was an extremely strong start to this season. This has now left them 3rd in the table with promotion not far from their sights! I’m sure you’ll be as excited as I am to see what the next half and an end of season top of the table clash brings them!
The Ladies 2’s have continued their positivity from last season into this with a great team atmosphere lead by Becky and Sarina! With more win’s and draws under their belt than this time last season this is a promising sign for good things to come for the second half the season. If they continue in this vein I’m sure they will be climbing up from their current 10th place position with no trouble at all.
Continuing the precedent set by the 1’s the Ladies 3’s also had a fantastic start to the season lead by MJ, with a run of 5 games unbeaten. A few tough games hasn’t dampened their enthusiasm as the thumbs up selfies prove! They currently stand in a strong 6th place with 2 games in hand ready to smash the second half of the season.
Not to be outdone the Ladies 4’s also had an amazing run of 7 unbeaten games to start the season lead by captain Meg. This has secured them 3rd place in the league and also pushing for promotion! This has shown that the good vibes has turned into goals. Onwards and upwards!
Last but by definitely no means least the Ladies 5’s. With an impressive 30 different players taking part over the course of this season, they have had record numbers at training and consistently show up with positive attitudes and enthusiasm lead by captain Bryony. This had lead to strong performances against well-drilled teams despite their 11th place in the league.
Overall it has been a fantastic first half of the season for everyone. This is very much in thanks to everyone who supports the ladies section – the captains, coaches, umpires and of course the players! Enjoy the break and see you all in the New Year!

Juniors
This season has been the best possible start for the junior section of the club, with over 70 new juniors joining us this year, meaning we now have over 200 juniors at the club. Our U10s group has reached new levels, having to implement a waiting list as our numbers reached a huge 70 on the register and pitch space ran out!! The increase in members at juniors has allowed us to be able to field multiple teams per age group and for the first time in a long time the both the U10 and U12 boys have been able to field 2 teams each. This is a huge achievement for the club and is a testament to the hard work of our coaching team. The U14 boys have had a fantastic start to the season boosted by the U12s stepping up to play with them. They lost narrowly to York at the start of the season by 1 goal, with York seeming to be the top team to beat. The U16 boys have had many new recruits to the team and are a real asset to the team. As they have only had a 3 league fixtures, multiple friendly games have been rearranged and some are now starting to play senior fixtures and are impressing the older players in the club! The U14 girls team is mainly comprised of the U12 girls who have moved up this season. They have done exceptionally well going from a 7-a-side game to an 11-a-side game and it will be great to see how they progress on to the next half of the season. This time last year we had to pull the U16 girls from the league as we could not field a team. However, this season this is not the case! We were supposed to play against Leeds which would have been an interesting match, they cancelled as they could not face playing us (due to frozen pitch!!).

Alongside having a great hockey life, the junior section has also had a great social side. We have run a Halloween social with over 60 children attending and competing in a fancy dress costume, with best dressed going to Ffion R. It was brilliant seeing everyone in their fancy dress and the competitive edge when apple bobbing and pinning the spider on the web! Thank you to everyone that brought food and drink to create a ‘fuddle’ of excellent variety and creativity for everyone to enjoy at the halloween social. We have also been bowling with over 70 children. Hollywood Bowl was not prepared for the Adel take over!! The juniors thoroughly enjoyed this and this shows the level of commitment we have across the section. We can wait for 2024 socials!
A massive thank you to all those who have helped and volunteered this half of the season!! I could not have done this without you! Thank you to Alice for leading U10s, Jim R for U12 girls, Nat and Sam for U12 boys and Stuart and Rich for the U16 and U14 boys.
Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year and I will see you for the second half of the season!
