Leeds Adel Hockey Club is part of a collective organisation of sports and social sections that make up the Adel War Memorial Association (AWMA).

The AWMA oversees the facilities at the club including the clubhouse, bar, and most of the grounds. Part of your hockey membership goes towards the central pot of money to upkeep and improve these for members.

The AWMA, although a charity, does not have a cap on the price of energy – as householders do. As such, when prices were renegotiated earlier this year, prices for utilities went up 250% overnight. Energy costs will likely increase by £25000 this year despite significant investment by the hockey section and AWMA in upgrading to LED lights at the pitch.

Dave Pike, the treasurer of the AWMA and in his mid-70s, has embarked on a charity cycle ride from the North coast to the South coast of France with the aim to raise £5,000 for the club to help fund solar panels to further reduce electricity costs – and improve sustainability.
