I came to Adel in 2012 after a long break away from hockey, and I got involved in my first season as social secretary, and organised the end of season dinners for the club up until 2018. I have worn a lot of hats at my short time at Adel, but i’ve been lucky enough to have been involved in most areas at the club. These include umpire co-ordinator, social secretary, ladies 3s captain – but i have managed to streamline down the current roles to member of the exec committee, fixture secretary, ladies club captain, and membership – as well as a division rep for Yorkshire Hockey. I have worked my way from the ladies 4s when i first joined, up to currently playing with the ladies 1s. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every team i’ve worked my way into – and every season has been different to the previous. I’ve been fortunate enough to have been involved in pivotal milestones within the club , and to watch Adel grow in the way it has. From being in a group who took it upon themselves to physically pull up the astro before having a new one laid in 2014, to being part of the team in 2019 who made it for the first time in the clubs history to the Mixed England National Finals at Lee Valley – those memories will stick with me for a long time, but the true highlight off the back of playing at Lee Valley with Adel, was being selected to represent Mixed England Hockey.
I’m really proud to say that I’m a member of Leeds Adel Hockey Club, and i’m proud to see how friendly we are as a club. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed making new friendships at Adel, seeing those juniors head off to university – and return back to the club, and also look forward to welcoming new people who decide to join every year. I want those who come to our club, to feel as welcome as I did on the first day I came. AWMA has become a second home to me – and it’s really been a pleasure seeing how interlinked many of the members have become through coming and supporting teams up at the pitch. It really is like having a very large (and competitive) family! There is no place like Adel, and i’ve loved every minute of it…
